Set the Black Iris on a flat surface out of direct sunlight, in a room of 68 to 75°F, and switch it on. The wax flows after 2 to 3 hours. Switch the lamp off after 10 hours at most and give it 2 to 3 hours to cool before you move it.
Check before you buy
- Your spot has 4 inches of flat space and 14.5 inches of height, on a desk, a nightstand or a dorm shelf
- An outlet is within reach of the cord and its on/off switch
- Small children and pets cannot reach the lamp while it is on: the globe gets hot
Pick another one if
You want motion without a wait. A glitter lamp or a battery mini moves from the first minute.

What buyers say about the Black Iris
Beautiful Lava Lamp - Read the Instructions if Cloudy
This is such a cool lava lamp! I love the irredescent base and cap. Love the purple wax inside. The liquid in mine did come cloudy like so many of these reviews have complained about. However, it's important to let the lava lamp run for 6-8 hours over the course of a few days; letting it completely cool and settle inbetween uses (as the included instructions suggest.) The liquid in mine cleared up in a matter of days and has stayed clear.Highly recommend this lava lamp!
Changed orginal one star review to five by following instructions and being patient.
I changed my original one star review to a five star because my concerns were resolved using the troubleshooting techniques. There is a personality to the use and care of these things. Cycling them, not running them too long, placement and temperature. It took a couple of weeks but the cloudiness cleared. I enjoy it now and the purple is vibrant.
